Highlighting Table View Feature

Currently as the mouse is moved down the list in table view, the row is highlighted by shading the row slightly darker. I would find it useful if I could single click on a row and it would remain highlighted somehow. Better still would be if you could highlight multiple entries in the table to ease comparisons (Windows CTRL click?).
