I’d love something like this too. eg if you use the same Filter UI to narrow down your car search (you already built this!), but instead of showing listings, show a graph of prices over time historically, you can see depreciation curves. Bonus points if you could include statistical uncertainty lines too.

If you’ve ever seen FourWheel Trader’s price analysis videos on youtube, think of a self serve version of that

Thanks for the input, @David Pio ! Definitely on the roadmap.

I’m working through my Master’s in Data Science and this is something I’ve thought about building out for the last year or so. I think it’d be useful to have your dataset even look at features/trims since that can greatly affect the future value.

Hey Jeff! Thanks for the interest here. Unfortunately due to some administrative issues we cannot provide access to the underlying data directly. Would love to chat more about any ideas you have, if you’re game.

A nifty add-on to this feature might be a lifetime value tracker, of sorts. An example would be: if we’re talking about an E36 M3, the tracker would show MSRP at year 1 (e.g. 1998), followed by YoY average market values. Definitely more a fun, nice-to-have feature though that might incur some significant data costs (Polk, etc).

I may or may not have a prototype of this on my laptop… something like this would be really fun to look at / explore for different years/models. I think the v1 would be us estimating the lifetime value by looking at previous model years to forecast out.

For example, if you were looking at a new 2025 RAV4, we’d show:
      - Year 0: New 2025 list prices
      - Year 1: Used 2024 prices with 10-20K miles
      - Year 2: Used 2023 prices with 20-40K miles,
      - etc, based on an input of estimated yearly mileage

The above obviously doesn’t work as well for net new models or fundamental changes (maybe a model goes hybrid or EV starting in 2024), but there would be other ways to work around that.

I don’t know if you all ever plan to allow customers to sell cars to you all similar to what CarMax/Vroom/Carvana do, but it’d be interesting if forecasted future value based on data aggregated could be used to create options on vehicles.

For example, let’s say I’m in the market to buy a new car in the next X months that is projected to be worth $10k by Visor. I pay Visor $100 dollars for the option to sell my car for that price between now and then to put some certainty around the car buying process for me.

Thanks for this idea, Kohl. We do have plans to offer some trade-in options with a third party soon. I can say that selling your car on Visor directly is a ways away right now, but this idea will be sticking in my head until then.
